It All Starts With You
Did you know that when you recycle your used plastic bottles, they can actually be made into new bottles or other useful items? It starts with you simply placing your used bottles into the recycling bin. From there, the bottles are collected from homes, businesses and other recycling sites. Plastic bottles are separated from the other items in the recycling bins and sorted by their plastic type. The bottles are cleaned to remove any liquid or residue, then ground up and shredded into flakes when they are melted down and formed into small pellets. The pellets are then bundled so they can be used to make new bottles or other products. Plastipak’s recycling company, Clean Tech, facilitates our bottle to bottle approach with its innovative recycling technology.
This process of “bottle to bottle recycling” all begins with the plastic bottles that we use in everyday life. These bottles are made out of a material called polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which over the years has become the most widely-used packaging material for beverages across the globe. Plastic bottles are lightweight and easy to hold, but are also strong and difficult to break, which is why they make the perfect container for liquids, including everything from your favorite soft drinks to household cleaners.
