Join the Movement

Whenever you recycle at home or in your community, you are playing an important part in the mission of Recycling Counts™. It all starts by placing your used plastic bottles in the recycling bin. Repeating this one simple action can truly make a difference, and the more people who participate the greater the impact. The plastic that you recycle is kept out of landfills and can be made into new bottles and all kinds of other products. Join the Recycling Counts™ movement by recycling your used plastic bottles at home and in your community!

How to Recycle

Recycling Counts™ at home and in your community. How can you get started?

Sustainability

  • GET INFORMED ABOUT RECYCLING
Contact your city government to find out about the curbside recycling programs that exist in your area. Local recycling companies will let you know what is recyclable and how the collection process works.
  • USE RECYCLING BINS
Place a recycling bin in your home to collect used, recyclable plastics.
  • INCLUDE BOTTLE CAPS
Remember to leave the caps on your bottles. Many recycling facilities recycle caps! Contact your city government to find out details for your area.
  • KEEP IT DRY AND CLEAN
Keep your recyclable items dry and clean. Remove leftover products such as soda or juice from plastic bottles with a quick rinse. Items that are wet or that contain leftover products can contaminate the other recyclable items.
  • LEAVE IT OUT
If you’re unsure about whether an item is recyclable or not, check with your local recycler or leave it out. Some non-recyclable items such as medical waste, propane cylinders, paint and chemicals can be dangerous or can contaminate the items that are recyclable.
  • DON’T BAG RECYCLABLES
Bagged recyclables pose a risk of contamination from potential substances inside the bag, and therefore are sent to landfills. The bags themselves can also get caught in sorting equipment.
  • SPREAD THE WORD
Initiate a conversation with family and friends to spread the word on recycling at home and in the community so we can all be part of Recycling Worth Repeating!™
  • REACH OUT FOR ANSWERS
Still not sure? If you have additional questions about how to recycle in your area, reach out to your city government or recycling facility for further answers.
